A medical school has clear policies for the refund of a medical student’s tuition, fees, and other allowable payments (e.g., payments made for health or disability insurance, parking, housing, and other similar services for which a student may no longer be eligible following withdrawal).

A best practice is putting these policies everywhere students look such as public websites, admissions packets, student handbooks, so there’s no mystery or fine-print surprises. Clear timelines, simple language, and explanations about what happens to things like health insurance or housing refunds help schools check the LCME box and keep students informed without confusion.

A quick CQI tune-up can go a long way. Schools should regularly scan their sites and materials to make sure refund info is consistent, current, and easy to understand. Small fixes such as updating links, simplifying language, or reorganizing sections help schools stay LCME-ready while keeping the student experience smooth.
